Sound design that completes the scene.

Sound design rebuilds what a localized version needs when the original music-and-effects track is missing, incomplete or unusable. It is one of the most common hidden costs in localization, and one of the easiest to get wrong.

Rebuilds the M&E

Missing, incomplete or unusable effects tracks rebuilt for the localized version.

Built to picture

Designed from our own and licensed libraries, placed frame-accurately.

Found at intake

You get a scope and separate quote before the schedule is set.

Why this service exists.

Dubbing needs the M&E: everything except the dialogue. It is often not properly delivered.

  • No M&E at all

Older catalog titles frequently never had one.

  • Dialogue mixed in

Independent productions often kept no separated stem.

  • Dialogue bleed

Some M&E tracks exist but carry dialogue bleeding through.

  • Lost effects

Remove the speech and the glass set down mid-line goes with it.

Skip the rebuild and your characters walk silently across gravel.

  4. 04Deliver stemsSeparate stems, so dubbed dialogue sits inside a full soundscape.
  5. 05Mix and masterTo your platform's specification.

Rebuilding without redesigning.

The goal is to be indistinguishable from the original, not better than it.

  • Ambience

    Matched to the source production.

  • Level conventions

    Held to the original's conventions.

  • Effects density

As busy or as sparse as the original.

  • Perspective

    The source's perspective choices, kept.

A rebuilt scene that sounds cleaner stands out as much as one that sounds worse.

Frequently
Asked Questions.

What is an M&E track and why does it matter?
An M&E track is the music-and-effects stem, everything in the mix except dialogue. Dubbing requires it, because the new dialogue replaces the old and everything else has to remain. Without a usable M&E, the effects underneath the dialogue have to be rebuilt.
What if we don't have an M&E track?
Then we rebuild what is missing using sound design. We identify this during the technical review at intake and quote it separately, so it is a known cost before the project starts rather than a surprise during mixing.
Will rebuilt audio sound different from the original?
It should not, and matching is the actual craft of the job. We work to the sonic character of the source production so a rebuilt section does not stand out from the material around it, whether by sounding worse or by sounding conspicuously cleaner.
