Western Apache

United States

Western Apache dubbing and localization.

TrendsUp Media delivers dubbing, voice-over, translation and subtitling in Western Apache with native linguistic review, cultural review and independent quality control. It is a completed-project language for us.

Start a Project

Western Apache.

Spoken across communities in Arizona, including San Carlos and White Mountain Apache. Like Navajo, it is Southern Athabaskan and the subject of active language-preservation work in which recorded media plays a part.

The speaker pool is the constraint.

  • A small community

Fewer speakers than Navajo, so fewer people who could record to a publishable standard.

  • Not an audition

Each project starts by establishing who is available and whether their register suits the material.

  • Independent review

We also check that a second person exists who can review the work independently.

One unavailable person can change the answer. You hear that before committing to a date.

Related, not interchangeable.

Related Southern Athabaskan languages, with real structural similarity and some mutual intelligibility.

  • Western Apache

Its own language, with its own deliverable.

  • Navajo (Diné bizaad)

A Navajo recording is not a Western Apache deliverable.

Swapping one for the other passes unnoticed by a client and is obvious to the audience it was made for. We say so because the industry does make this substitution, usually without telling anyone.

Frequently
Asked Questions.

Do you deliver in Western Apache?
Yes. It is a language we have completed and shipped projects in, with independent linguistic review and cultural review. Very few studios anywhere can say the same.
Isn't Western Apache close enough to Navajo?
No. They are related Southern Athabaskan languages with real similarity and some mutual intelligibility, but they are distinct languages. A Navajo recording is not a Western Apache deliverable, and substituting one for the other is obvious to the audience even when it passes unnoticed by the client.
How do you find Western Apache voice talent?
Through the language community rather than an agency roster. The speaker pool is small, so casting is a question of who is available and suitable, and of whether a second person can review the work independently.
How long does a Western Apache project take?
Sourcing is the variable and we confirm talent availability before agreeing a delivery date. Once cast, production runs to our standard three days per finished hour.
