MENA

Arabic dubbing and localization.

Arabic requires an early variant decision: Modern Standard Arabic for broad regional reach, or a dialect for a more local, conversational register.

Modern Standard or dialect.

The most consequential decision on an Arabic project. We make it with you on editorial grounds, not by what is easier to cast.

  • Modern Standard Arabic

Understood across the Arab world, nobody's mother tongue. The language of news and formal writing. Sounds literary in drama; often works for children's animation and factual content.

  • Dialect (Egyptian, Gulf, Levantine)

Sounds like actual speech, but is regionally marked in a way MSA is not. Egyptian travels furthest, thanks to decades of Egyptian film and TV. Usually right for contemporary drama, comedy and creator content.

  • Our casting

We cast to the variety you specify: Modern Standard, Egyptian, Gulf, Levantine or another regional dialect. Per-project sourcing means availability never makes the choice.

Where Arabic subtitles go wrong.

Arabic is right-to-left, cursive and context-sensitive: letters change shape by position in a word.

Letter joining
Punctuation direction
Mixed-direction lines (a Latin brand name or number inside Arabic)

Latin-script workflows break this. Our subtitling QC checks character set and direction explicitly.

Content standards vary by market.

Arabic-speaking markets differ considerably in what is acceptable for broadcast and streaming.

  • Set by destination

Requirements depend on the target market, not on the language.

  • Your standard

We work to the standard you specify for your target markets.

  • Flagged, not hidden

We flag content likely to raise an issue rather than delivering it silently.

  • Not legal advice

We do not advise on your regulatory obligations.

Frequently
Asked Questions.

Should I dub into Modern Standard Arabic or a dialect?
It depends on the content. MSA is understood everywhere and sounds formal, which suits children's animation and factual work. Dialect sounds like real speech and suits contemporary drama, comedy and creator content, but is regionally marked. Egyptian has the widest reach among dialects.
Will one Arabic track work across all Arab markets?
MSA comes closest, at the cost of sounding formal. A dialect track is regionally marked. Which trade-off is right depends on your content and where your audience actually is.
Do you handle Arabic subtitles properly?
Yes, and it needs explicit attention. Arabic is right-to-left, cursive and context-sensitive, and workflows built for Latin script routinely break letter joining and mixed-direction text. Directionality and character handling are checked during subtitling QC.
Do you handle content standards for Arabic markets?
We work to the standard you specify for your destination markets and flag content likely to cause an issue. We do not advise on your regulatory obligations.
