Russian Dubbing & Localization

Russian dubbing and localization.

We have translators, reviewers and performers in place for Russian and cast per project. Russian is one of the sixteen languages the largest multi-language creator channels dub into, and it presents a specific adaptation problem.

Six cases, lines that outgrow the mouth.

Case endings mark grammatical role, so word order is free, but only some orders put the stressed word where the picture wants it. Shortening a Russian line usually means restructuring it, and restructuring moves the emphasis. Doing both at once, to picture, is the actual skill.

Available time

Case endings, aspect and longer words push a faithful Russian line past the available time.

ты and вы.

Formality is marked in the pronoun and in verb agreement, and the shift between them carries meaning, as in French or Korean. We map it per character pair at script stage.

Frequently
Asked Questions.

Do you work in Russian?
Yes. We cast, record and finish Russian per project, with native performers and a native reviewer on every read. Tell us the content and the deadline and we will come back with the team, the timeline and the quote.
Do Russian lines fit the original timing?
Usually not directly: Russian runs longer than English. Adaptation shortens and restructures, which has to be done carefully because case endings mean restructuring changes where the emphasis lands.
How is formality handled?
Through ты and вы and the verb agreement that follows, mapped per character pair at script stage. The shift between them carries meaning and is treated as a story beat.
Do you subtitle in Cyrillic?
Yes, with encoding, line breaking and reading-speed limits applied to Cyrillic rather than inherited from Latin-script defaults.
